Butterworts (Pinguicula)
Pinguicula means "little greasy one" in Latin. This refers to the mucilage liquid they secrete from their leaves which gives them a sticky, buttery, greasy feel. Butterworts are often grown for their beautiful flowers which are pollinated by hummingbirds in their native habitat. This genus is excellent at luring and trapping small insects such as gnats, fruit flies and springtails.
