Tropical Pitcher Plants (Nepenthes)

Certainly the most regal of all the carnivorous plants, the discovery of Nepenthes in the middle of the seventeenth century inspired awe and wonder in everyone who laid eyes on them. Into the late 1800s, Nepenthes were trending and served as a status symbol of the wealthy and upper class. More recently since the 1990s carnivorous plants and Nepenthes in particular have gained significant public interest leading to numerous expeditions and the discovery of dozens of species. Through all this, Nepenthes have an incredibly rich botanical and horticultural history.
