Sun Pitcher Plants (Heliamphora)
Originating from the remote and mysterious plateau-mountains of the Tepuis, Heliamphora are the only pitcher plants from South America. Heliamphora produce tough and brittle pitchers with a prominent and colorful nectar spoon which attracts insects. Due to the extreme amount of rain in the Tepuis, Heliamphora have not evolved to to form a lid (like most Nepenthes), instead they have developed a narrow pore about halfway up the pitcher which allows excess water to trickle free and prevents their meals from floating away!
